During our ride to Beaufort Castle, Jamie filled me in on what he knew of his grandfather. Over the last 50 years, Lord Simon Fraser of Lovat
had been alternately loyal< to both the exiled King James and the monarchs sitting on the British throne.

His personal life was equally infamous. Aside from numerous extramarital dalliances, Lord Lovat had had three wives, two of them acquired by nefarious means.

Surprisingly when they arrive at Beaufort Castle, they also meet Column MacKenzie there. He came with the same interest, the war. Still having suspicious Column has something to do with the witch trial, Claire is not happy to see him.

Claire Fraser Monologue #2:

While Jamie's meeting dragged on, I took the opportunity to look over the place Lord Lovat called home.

Not completely recover from Column presence, Claire again shock when she meet Laoghaire. She's on duty to accompany Column to help with his laundry. Laoghaire apologize to Claire for horrible things she did to her, say she has changed. Still angry to the young girl, Claire didn't give her forgiveness.

At dinner the leaders of the clan discuss wheter they will support Jacobite army or not. While Jamie show his support for King James, his uncle Column has his doubt. Jamie think Jenny is right, his grandfather wants something in exchange.

The next day Claire approach Laoghaire, tell her there is a way to earn Jamie forgiveness. Aware Simon, Lord Lovat's son, infatuated with Laoghaire, Claire ask her to help boost his confidence to stood up to his father and took Jamie's side.

When Claire leave Laoghaire and Simon, she go to small chapel across the street and meet Lord Lovat's seer, Maisri. Claire ask the seer what she saw about Lord Lovat that makes him mad the day before. Back at the castle, Lord Lovat have documents that will decide if the Lovat clan join the war or not. Before Jamie sign the document, Claire play an act using information she received from Maisri.

Claire Fraser Monologue #3:

As we put distance between ourselves and Jamie's loathsome grandfather, my heart lightened.

We had Lovat's men now. Jamie would have the prince's favour and at least the opportunity to steer the rebellion to victory.

Maisri had said we could change the future. Perhaps we already had.

And how many times have my prayers been answered?. Part 2 Time is a lot of the things that people say God is. There's the preexisting and having no end. There's the notion of being all-powerful, because nothing can stand against time, not mountains, not armies. Give anything enough time, and everything is taken care of: all pain encompassed, all hardship erased, all loss subsumed. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Remember, Man, thou art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return. And if time is anything akin to God, I suppose that memory must be the devil.
