[Outlander Summary] S02E01: Through a Glass, Darkly.



Claire Fraser Monologue #1:

I wished I were dead.
And if I'd kept my eyes shut, I could have almost touched
the edges of oblivion.

But I'd made a promise and had to keep it. Even if it meant living a life I no longer wanted.

He was gone. They were all gone. The world I'd left only
moments ago was now dust.

Episode S02E01: Through a Glass, Darkly, start with a scene Claire laying on the grass of Craigh Na Dun, in year 1948. And the history didn't changed, British won the Battle of Culloden. Heart broken, weak, and disoriented with her surrounding, Claire is taken to the hospital. Frank immediately came to visit her when he heard the news.

Awkwardness fill the room when they meet for the first time. Frank feel he's seeing his loving wife but Claire show an unexplained anger, don't know how to react with this new situation. When Frank try to touch her, Claire deny him. All she see is Black Jack.

Reverend Wakefield offer his house for their temporary stay. They try to figure it out what really happened to Claire based on clothes she's wearing. They have so many question with not enough answer. The only person Claire can open up about what she's been through and share stories about Jamie is Mrs. Graham.

Taking Mrs. Graham advise, Claire ask Frank to have a conversation. Claire tell Frank everything what really happened after she's back to Craigh Na Dun to observe more the blue plant she found the night before. It is difficult for Frank to hear Claire whole stories that she married another man when she travel to different time and pregnant with Jamie's child.

After some struggling accept his new faith, Frank ask Claire to give their marriage another chance. He want to start over as a family. He wants to raise Jamie's child as his own and ask Claire to never find any references about him.


Jamie, Claire, and Murtagh arrive in Le Havre, France, 1744. Claire and Jamie immediately starting a plan to change the future, to stopping the Jacobite rebellion. Claire first idea is to approach Jamie's cousin Jared who is a Jacobite, trying to get close to key players, find out where they get their money, and then disrupt their plans. Jamie agree and then write a letter to his cousin for help. But first, they have to tell Murtagh.

Jared wondering what change Jamie's heart to suddenly have interest in politics and support Jacobite. To erase Jared doubt, Jamie show him his wounds on his back call it as "courtesy of the British army." Jared offer Jamie to administer his wine business and share profit while he's sail abroad. This way it's easier for Jamie to find connection with Jacobite Army in France.

Claire Fraser Monologue #2:

While Jamie inspected the shipment of port, I went for a walk.

I was beginning to be susceptible to bouts of morning sickness, and while the air along the docks wasn't exactly fresh, it was better than the close confines of our temporary lodgings.

When Claire wandering the harbor, there are 2 sick sailors who Claire diagnosed having a smallpox. Claire request a quarantined for the rest of the crewmen, and according to the law the ship must be burn. The owner of the ship, Comte St.Germain, is not happy at all.

Claire Fraser Monologue #3:

The captain tried to stop me from seeing the sick crewman because he knew the truth.
Pus-filled blisters, and high fever. The diagnosis was obvious.

[Outlander Summary] S01E07: The Wedding.

It's Jamie and Claire's wedding day. This episode have several flashback scene. Both of Claire marriage to Frank and Jamie are started in spontaneous or in sudden way. Frank and Claire getting married in register office on their way to meet Frank's parents in a restaurant for the first time. Claire Fraser Monologue #1: You forget your life after awhile...the life you had before. Things you cherish and hold dear are like pearls on a string. Cut the knot, they scatter across the floor, rolling into dark corners, never to be found again. So you move on. And eventually you forget what the pearls even looked like. Or at least you try. After wedding ceremony and a little bit of celebration, Jamie and Claire are in their bedroom, both of them are nervous. Claire was taken to charity hospital immediately. Tired emotionally and physically watching Jamie duel with Randall, Claire lost the baby. Even though the baby born dead, Mother Hildegard still baptized and named her Faith. Because of Claire having a high fever, Mother Hildegard call a priest to preparing her soul. Master Raymond sneak into the hospital at night to heal Claire from high fever. Claire Fraser Monologue #1: A white hotness burned deep in my bones. I knew what it was. Puerperal fever. The baby had come, but part of the placenta had not. It festered inside my womb... but as Raymond's hands moved over the meridians of my body, I could feel the tiny deaths of the bacteria that inhabited my blood. Small explosions as each scintilla of infection disappeared.
