Claire Randall Monologue #1:
The last time I was here, Frank and I simply took the car.
But after spending two days and nights jolting along on a horse,
I knew I'd never find my way back, not unless I convinced these people to help me in some way.
When they arrive in Castle Leoch, Claire immediately convince she's not in the 20th century anymore. A woman named Mrs. Fitzgibbons welcome these highlanders men. Jamie introduced Claire to her. As a sassenach (not to mention from the future), Mrs. Fitzgibbons ask Claire many question when she's starting talking about Jamie injury.
It's like having a dejavu when Claire walking through Castle Leoch corridor. Mrs. Fitzgibbons provide Claire some herbs for Jamie injury. When she clean Jamie injury, Claire saw lash wounds on his back done by Captain Randall twice in one week. Jamie tell Claire he's been flogged because of escape from Fort William and stealing.
It's all started 4 years ago when Captain Randall and his soldiers came along to Jamie's family property, Lallyboach. All Jamie did is defending his sister honor.
Claire Randall Monologue #2:
My husband. What was Frank going through?.
His wife disappears without a trace, without a word, without explanation.
Fears would prey on him.
Perhaps I was abducted.
Perhaps I was dead.
Perhaps, worst of all, I had left him for another man.
Jamie promise Claire as long as he's with her, Claire safe and shouldn't be afraid of anyone while staying in Castle Leoch. After getting enough sleep, decent food, and a proper 18th century dress, Claire got to meet with the leader of MacKenzie clan, Colum MacKenzie.
Claire Randall Monologue #3:
If I was going to survive, I needed to acclimatize myself as quickly as possible. I knew where I was, but when?.
From the clothes and weapons alone, I knew it was most likely the 18th century.
1743. Scotland is definitely part of Great Britain.
Seventeen forty-three, decades before the American revolution.
England and France are at war again. One of the Hanover kings is on the throne. But which one?.
Claire sudden appearance in the woods spark some question to the laird of the castle. Claire told him she's a widowed lady from Oxfordshire and in the middle of traveling with manservant to her relative in France when suddenly got attack by bandits and she was forced to abandon her horse and property. Colum promise Claire, he will accommodate her transport back to Inverness five days from that day.
Claire Randall Monologue #4:
Five days.
Five days, and I would be back on the road to Inverness, and then back to the stones atop Craigh Na Dun, and hopefully back home.
I did know something of this era the politics, the people, their dress. Even some of their customs and colloquialisms were familiar.
But it was all secondhand knowledge, acquired from books, museums, paintings.
It was like landing on an alien world you'd only glimpsed through a telescope.
But then you begin to wonder if maybe life on this alien world is not so different after all.
After her meeting with the laird, Claire spend some time to look around the life of Castle Leoch. Later that night, Claire join the entire clan for dinner. She meet Colum's wife, Letitia, and son, Hamish. Colum ask more question about Claire family background.
Claire Randall Monologue #5:
Frank would have laughed and said I fell for the oldest trick in the book, ply the subject with food and drink, but all the while continuing the interrogation.
I would have to be more careful if I were to survive the next five days.
The next day Claire came to find Jamie at stable to replace the bandage and bring some lunch. Jamie told Claire, the British set a price for his head for 10 pounds, and revealed Colum and Dougal are his uncles from his mother side. Even though she's welcome to Castle Leoch, there are men following Claire around the estate.
Claire Randall Monologue #6:
For the next few days, I determined to maintain a simple routine, both to keep my mind occupied while I awaited
the tinker's arrival and to give Dougal's men nothing of the slightest interest to report.
Mrs. Fitz put me to work helping to harvest food for the kitchen. I found a quiet sense of pleasure in touching growing things once more, felt the satisfaction of helping them thrive.
When collecting plant for food, Claire meet Geillis Duncan, a mysterious red head woman who also interested in botany. That night, people of the village gather in the Castle Leoch hall asking advice for their problem from the chief clan. Jamie offer himself to take punishment for Mrs. Fitz's grand daughter, Laoghaire. Claire have to sneak out of the hall to take care of Jamie wounds, again.
Claire Randall Monologue #7:
After a week's observation, I diagnosed Colum's condition
as Toulouse-Lautrec syndrome. Named for its most famous sufferer who did not yet exist, I reminded myself, it was a degenerative disease of bone and connective tissue.
Lautrec died at age 38. And given the state of medicine in the 18th century, Colum Mackenzie was most certainly living on borrowed time.
The day of Claire leaving the castle is arrive. Mrs. Fitz provide Claire with food that lasted for a week. But, then suddenly, Dougal say Colum want to meet her. Colum healer, Davie Beaton, caught in a fever. Colum ask Claire to stay and replace his position as a healer.
